David Gordon Spahr age 75, passed suddenly on February 5, 2018. Born October 16, 1942, he was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon Peterson Spahr and Mary Louise (Ledbetter) Spahr of Xenia. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Ann (Black) Spahr; sons Alan David Spahr of Marengo, IL, and Philip Gordon Spahr of Jamestown, NC; sister Kathleen S. (Don) Carey of Grass Valley, CA; brother Mark S. (Merry) Spahr of Xenia; and granddaughter Breana Rivero and her mother Denise Rivero of Batavia, OH. He graduated from Xenia High School in 1960, The Ohio State University with a B.S. in Civil Engineering in 1965, and Wright State University with M.B.A. in 1975. As an officer in the Civil Engineer Corps at the U.S. Naval Base Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, he served from 1965 to 1969. He served the City of Xenia for nearly 26 years. He began as Administrative Assistant in 1969, became Xenia's first Assistant City Manager in 1972, and was City Manager from 1986 until his retirement in 1995. Dave loved Xenia and gave back in many ways. He was a member of Faith Community United Methodist Church and the Rotary Club of Xenia. He served on boards of the Greene County Historical Society, the Greene County Council on Aging, and Heisey Collectors of America. He was a volunteer for the Greene Memorial Hospital's Meals on Wheels and Courtesy Cart programs and the Greene County Board of Elections. He was a season ticket holder for XHS football and basketball games for 49 years. He is an anatomical donor to the Wright State School of Medicine for study and research. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to The National Heisey Glass Museum (Newark, OH), Faith Community United Methodist Church (Xenia) or a charity of your choosing.
