Edward J. Keferl, Jr., 73, of Xenia, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2016, at Hospice of Dayton. He was born September 4, 1942, in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Edward J. and Anna Dassell Keferl, Sr. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Mote) Keferl, whom he married, August 29, 1964, two daughters, Janice (Christopher) Campbell, Enon, and Linda (Mark) Comer, Xenia, a son, Joseph Edward Keferl, Xenia, sister, Merita A. (Danny) Moffitt, Xenia, 9 grandchildren, Gavin, Katelyn, Kelsey, and Evan Campbell, Jorge, Marin, and Marco Keferl, and Amanda and Justin Comer, a brother, Rev. Francis J. Keferl, Vandalia, by several nieces and nephews, and by many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Ed was a member of the Spring Valley Township Volunteer Fire Department for 27 years, being one of the first Paramedics on the department. He was a four year member of the Paramedic Advisory Board and acted as president in 1981. He served St. Brigid Church as Eucharistic minister, lector, and was a member of the Wednesday Work Group. Ed was active in many youth activities including Cavalier Drum and Bugle Corps, Carroll High School Marching Band and Winter Guard and Pride of Cincinnati and Escapades Winter Guards. He was employed by General Motors, Harrison Radiator, and Delphi for 36 years and spear-headed the fire brigade at Delphi. Ed received the Spring Valley Acts 2011 Citizen of the Year Award. He had a passion for carving, fishing, boating, and his family. He will be sorely missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am, Monday, August 22, at St. Brigid Church, 312 Fairground Rd., Xenia, with Rev. Francis J. Keferl officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Sunday at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia.
