PETERTONJES, Pegge Ann of Washington Township passed away peacefully on August 7, 2011 at The Hospice of Dayton into the arms of her Lord. Pegge was born in 1942 to Allen and Pauline Luman in Greene County, Ohio. She was a 1960 graduate of Xenia High School and a 1963 graduate of the Bethesda Hospital Schoo1 of Nursing. She worked briefly in Cincinnati at Bethesda Hospital and then for a Cincinnati surgeon. She moved to Dayton in 1965 where she was employed at Kettering Memorial Hospital until 1971. Pegge was a 27 year member of Hope United Methodist Church where she served in many areas including Trustee and on the Pastor Parish and Nominations Committees. She was also an active member of the Pacesetters Fellowship Group, the Golden Gems Angels and the Prayerful Quilters. In addition she was a life member of both the Dayton Liederkranz-Turner Society and The Bethesda Alumni Association. For a number of years she was part owner of Tomorrows Keepsakes, a craft consignment shop located in Centerville. Pegge was also a 17 year volunteer at The Hospice of Dayton. Pegge was a woman of deep faith, dearly loved her family and church, and was a friend to all. She was a modest, intelligent, talented, serving woman with many interests. She was the rock of her family enjoying holidays, vacations and carrying on German family traditions. Pegge loved to travel in the US, visiting many of our national parks, and also made four extended trips to Germany and other parts of Europe. She loved to cook, sew and kept an extensive flower garden. She firmly supported ecological and wildlife causes. Pegge is preceded in death by her parents and in 1975 by infant daughter Heather Rene. She is survived by her husband of 47 years Ralph and by their two sons Eric and wife Sandra of Downingtown, Pennsylvania and Craig and wife Connie of Liberty Township, Ohio. Pegge, or Oma, as she was lovingly called, also leaves six grandchildren Megan, Melissa, Gabriel, Emily, Zoe and Rachel who were the joys of her life. Also survived by sister-in-law and brother-in-law Louise and Ulrich Gaertner and cousins, nieces, nephews and numerous friends. The family would like to thank Doctors Max Clark and Thomas Reid and their staffs, and the caregivers at The Hospice of Dayton, for the loving care provided to Pegge. A memorial service will take place at 11:00AM on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Hope Church, 5980 Wilmington Pike, with Rev. Victoria Powers-Smith and Dr. Jason Bunger officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Dayton. The family will receive friends from 9:00-11:00AM prior to the service. Following the burial a light lunch will be served for friends and family at Hope Church. In lieu of flowers any donations may be made to the Hope UMC - Missions Fund or to The Hospice of Dayton.
